Introduction

This tour and trek is full of beautiful landscapes and visits to the Humantay lake, Salkantay, Santa Teresa, Colcalmayo (thermal baths), Machu Picchu town (Aguas Calientes), Machu Picchu archeological site (wonder of the modern world) and Huayna Picchu or Mountain (optional).

Briefing between 5pm - 7pm the evening before the trip in our office, explaining all tour details from our guide.


ITINERARY


Day 1: Cusco – Mollepata - Soraypampa - Humantay lake

The group will be picked up at the hotels to travel by bus for 4 hours. Then we will arrive at Mollepata (2,900 mals), where we will meet our riders and horses that carry the camping equipment and we will be able to enjoy a delicious breakfast before starting towards the second place in Challacancha, where we will start our walk towards Soraypampa (3,900 mals) ) and where we will set up our camp base. In this area it is possible to see the beautiful snow peak of Salkantay. Then we will walk for 4 hours ascending the Saillapata mountain, where it is time to have lunch. After lunch, we will visit the Humantay Lake (3,459 mals), then back we will walk until we reach our camp in Soraypampa, around 5:00 pm.

Schedules day 1:

  • 04:30 - 05:00 Pick up each passengers from their respective hotels around of the historic center of cusco.
  • 05:00 - 07:30 From Cusco to Mollepata by bus.
  • 07:30 - 08:00 Breakfast in Mollepata.
  • 08:30 - 09:30 From Mollepata to Cha'llacancha.
  • 09:30 - 13.00 Start trekking to Saraypampa.
  • 13:00 - 14:00 Lunch / rest or free time.
  • 14:00 - 15:30 Trekking to Humantay Lake.
  • 15:30 - 16:00 Apacheta ritual for the Pachamama and free time.
  • 16:00 - 17:30 Return to base camp (Soraypampa).
  • 17:30 - 18:30 Rest and free time.
  • 18:30 - 19:30 Dinner / rest for the next day.

Day 2: Soraypampa - HuayraPampa - Chaullay

Early in the morning we will take our breakfast and then we will start a 3 hour hike until we reach the highest point of our expedition, the Salkantay Pass (4,600 m.a.). From there, we walk towards Wayracpunku (Huayra Pampa), for our next meal. Afterwards, the trip will continue going to the high jungle where we will observe large trees with their arms extended over the streams, all full of bromeliads and orchids. This walk will last around 5 hours to reach our camp in Chaullay (2,900 m.a.s l.) Where we will have dinner and rest

Schedules day 2:

  • 05:00 - 05:30 Wake up the passengers and coca tea, to each one.
  • 05:30 - 06:00 Breakfast.
  • 06:00 - 13.00 Start trekking from Soraypampa to Huayra Pampa.
  • 13:00 - 14:00 Lunch and rest in Huayra Pampa.
  • 14:00 - 17:00 Start Trekking from Huayra Pampa to Chaullay.
  • 17:00 - 18:00 Free time and rest.
  • 18:00 - 19:30 Dinner / rest for the next day.

Day 3: Chaullay - La Playa - Santa Teresa

After having breakfast around 6:30 am, we will head towards Sahuyaco (La Playa 2,080 masl). We will have lunch in this place. Then we continue our trip in our transport to Santa Teresa (1,550 masl) where we will set up our base camp and we will enjoy a relaxing reward in Cocalmayo (Hot Spring) Then we will have a traditional Peruvian dinner and rest well to prepare for the next day.

Schedules day 3:

  • 06:00 - 06:30 Wake up the passengers.
  • 06:30 - 07:00 Breakfast.
  • 07:00 - 11:30 Start trekking from Chaullay to La Playa.
  • 11:30 - 13:00 Lunch / Rest and free time.
  • 13:00 - 15:00 by bus from La Playa to santa Teresa.
  • 15:00 - 17:30 Hot Springs.
  • 17:30 - 18:30 Return to Santa Teresa.
  • 18:30 - 19:30 Dinner / rest for the next day.

Day 4: Santa Teresa - Hydroelectric - Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town)

The next morning, after a good breakfast, the bus waits for us. Those who booked in advance will do zip-lining. The rest of the group will go to the Hidroelectrica meeting point where the entire group will join for lunch after the activities. After a bit of relaxation in this place, we will continue walking along the railway that leads through this great jungle that the Inca knew by heart to our final destination: Aguas Calientes. We walk for about 3 hours and you will find beautiful waterfalls, different ecological farms and possibly the curious wildlife of your arrival in the region (arrival fixed around 4:00 p.m.). Here the group will spend the night in a hostel. At night we will all meet at a local restaurant to enjoy a great dinner and have an informative session about our next excursion to Machu Picchu. Then you can visit the city, which is wonderful after sunset.

Schedules day 4:

  • 06:30 - 07:00 Waking up.
  • 07:00 - 07:30 Breakfast.
  • 07:30 - 10:30 Zipline activity (optional) .
  • 10:30 - 11:30 private transportation to hydroelectric.
  • 11:30 - 13:00 Lunch and rest in the hamacas or free time .
  • 13:00 - 16:00 Start trekking to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Village).
  • 18:00 - 18:00 Meeting with the guide in the plaza for briefing for the next day.
  • 18:00 - 19:30 Dinner / rest for the next day.

Day 5: Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town) - Machu Picchu - Cusco

We get ready around 4:00 am to climb to Machu Picchu, the trek will follow an ascending path crossing the high jungle, just in time to see the spectacular sunrise. After passing the control entrance around 6:00am our group will have a private guided tour for 2 hours in the Inca citadel, later passengers will be free to enjoy Machu Picchu on their own. Late in the afternoon, according to the departure time of the train, the group will descend walking to Aguas Calientes to catch the train back to Ollantaytambo where everybody will be picked up and transferred to Cusco. The group has to be at the train station at least 30min before departure. The Salkantay Trek finishes on the square of San Francisco, Cusco.

Schedules day 5:

  • 04:00 - 04:20 Wake up all passengers for the last day.
  • 04:20 - 06:00 Start Trekking to see the spectacular sunrise in the citadel of Machu Picchu.
  • 06:00 - 08:30 Our group will have a private guided tour in the Inca citadel of machupicchu.
  • 08:30 - 12:00 Free time to enjoy Machu Picchu on their own (also passengers who booked for an additional, can climb to the Mountain or Huayna Picchu at 9am with the second group).
  • 12:00 - 12:30 The group will descend walking to Aguas Calientes.
  • 12:30 - 15:40 free time in aguas calientes.
  • 15:40 - 16:00 walk to the train station for the departure time to Ollantaytambo.
  • 16:00 - 17:40 returning from aguas calientes by train to Ollantaytambo (depending on the departure of your train).
  • 17:55 - 20:00 transfer from ollantaytambo station by private bus to the Plaza San Francisco in CUSCO where it will be the bus last stop (the arriving time will be depending the traffic in cusco).
