ITINERARY

DAY 1: CUSCO – PILCOPATA

We leave Cusco at 6:00am in a private bus, crossing many valleys and communities. Mid-morning we visit the graves of pre-Inca Ninamarca known as Ch’ullpas, then head to the historic village in the Andes, Paucartambo where we have breakfast. We will take a walk through the village and continue our journey up the mountain to climb to 3,852m. Acjanacu this is the starting point of Manu National Park as we continue through the lowland rain forest full of beautiful Orchids, Ferns and primitive Heliconias. We will have lunch on the way and walk 30 minutes to see the famous national bird of Peru, Rupicola Peruviana, or Cock of the Rock in its mating ritual. We may also have the opportunity to see the birds Trogons, Quetzals, Tanagers and many more. In the evening we arrive at Pilcopata where we have dinner and spend the night in a lodge.

DAY 2: PILCOPATA – PALOTOA

After a delicious breakfast we take the bus to go see the coca plant, then we will go to Puerto Atalaya where our boat awaits for us to continue our journey to Camp Palotoa. There we will visit the local village, have lunch and also at night we will spot the Caiman and other nocturnal animals, and finally, we return to the campsite to have dinner and relax.

DAY 3: PALOTOA NATIVE COMMUNITY – SOGA DE ORO LODGE

Very early after breakfast we will head into the native community where we will appreciate the local crafts and way of life. In the afternoon we will have lunch and cross the river where we can witness the beautiful rainforest nature until we reach the Soga de Oro lodge where we have dinner and spend the night.

DAY 4: SOGA DE ORO – ATALAYA – CUSCO

We get up early to go to the parrot clay licks, a formation naturally caused by parrots who visit there daily and erode the walls feeding. This is part of their diet to get rid of toxins in their body. Not only is it a colourful show, it’s a once in a lifetime experience with one of the best bird views in the world. We then return to the lodge for breakfast after which we take a boat heading toward the port of Atalaya. Our private car will be waiting to return us to the city of Cusco arriving around 5:00pm in the afternoon.
