This trek follows a path through deep green valleys, towering mountain passes, small rural villages, chilly snow caps and communities herding farmers whose way of life has essentially not changed since hundreds of years ago. The Lares trail is located east of Cusco. This journey is the perfect option if you are looking for something more off the beaten path than the classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Day 1: Cusco - Lares Hot Springs - Wacawasi (A, C)
Depart Cusco by private bus
Travel through the Sacred Valley to the hot springs of Lares
Two hour hike to our campsite.
Day 2: Wacawasi - Epsaycocha (D, A, C)
Observation of Alpaca fabric weaving
Climb to the pass of the Condor (approximately 4100m)
View of Mount "Veronica" at 5750 m.
Lake Epsaycocha- final camp
Day 3: Epsaycocha - Patacancha - Wylloq - Pumamarka - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes (D, A, C)
Downhill walk to Pata court
Textile and weaving observation
Continue to Wylloq for a brief rest & lunch
Two hours to Pumamarka and enjoy the Inca terraces
Depart to Ollantaytambo.
7pm-8:45pm Expedition Train Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes
8:45pm Transfer to your hotel in Aguas Calientes
Day 4: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco (B)
Early rise for bus to Machu Picchu
Check in and start the 2.5 hour guided tour.
Walk to Puente del Inca* or visit the citadel.
*If you want to climb the mountain of Huayna Picchu, there is an additional cost.
Return to Aguas Calientes
Lunch at Aguas Calientes
Optional 25 minute walk to the hot springs.*
*You must make your own arrangements to be back at Aguas Calientes meetup point for train back to Cusco. If you miss the train, you will be responsible to get yourself back to the group.

11:05pm- 1:00am Transfer from Ollanta station to the Plaza Rejoicing in Cusco (one block from the Plaza de Armas in Cusco)

We recommend bringing:
A small backpack to carry a light jacket in case the weather changes during the trek
A larger backpack with warm, comfortable clothes that are suitable for rain, as well as a rain poncho
Several pairs of socks
Scarf, gloves, and hat for cold weather, handkerchief
Small towel and cleaning implements (wipes)
Comfortable trekking shoes, preferably waterproof
Sandals for moments of rest (your feet will thank you!)
Sun hat, sunscreen and insect repellent (minimum 20%)
Moisturizer for face and body
Camera, binoculars, flashlight with extra batteries (consume more quickly in cold weather)

If you wish to return from Machu Picchu in the Expedition train leaving Aguas Calientes at 6:45pm and arrive in Ollantaytambo at 8:18pm and Cusco at 10:30pm, you must add USD 15 per person
If you wish to return from Machu Picchu on the Expedition direct train that departs Aguas Calientes at 4.43 pm and arrives in Cusco 9.00pm, you must add USD 30 per person.
If you wish to return from Machu Picchu by Vistadome train direct from Aguas Calientes at 3:20 pm and arriving to Cusco 7.40pm, there is an additional cost of USD 45 per person.
