Choquequirao is considered as "The Last Refuge of the Inca Empire". The oldest reports assign to Juan Arias Diaz as one of the first explorer that arrive in the zone in 1710, Hiram Bingham explored also this area in 1910.

Arriving at Choquequirao is an extreme adventure which stars from Cusco by bus to the town of Cachora (Apurimac) this trip demand 4 days hiking along the way we can enjoy and live in tune with nature and discover the original type of living from local people.

itinerary

DAY 1: CUSCO - CACHORA – CH’IQISQA
we will leave from Cusco at 5:30:00 am in the morning. Arriving to Cachora town at 10:30 in the morning, we will have our lunch. Here after we arrange the equipment on mules and horses. From that place we can observe the majestic Padrayoc snow-covered peaks, it is 5482 m.a.s.l. the hike on this first day is 20 km of distance and Salqantay snow-covered peaks; we can appreciate the beautiful change of the landscape from precipices to snowy mountains… On the way we will observe Apurimac canyon with its impressive depth and in ch’iqisqa we will set up our campsite.
The approximate time of the hike is about 7 hrs. On this day we will pass the small settlements: Colmena (2870 m.a.s.l), Capuliyoq (2915 m.a.s.l.) impressive look out point where we can see all Apurimac Valley, Huayhuacalle (2970 m.a.s.l.) and finally we arrive in chi’iqisqa (1950 m.a.s.l.).

DAY 2: CH’IQISQA - CHOQUEQUIRAO
At (5:00 am) after breakfast, we will continue our trip first down until playa Rosalina and cross the bridge of Apurimac river them we will go up to Santa Rosa the firs stopping place where we are going to try typical drink from sugar cane (Cambray), them we will continue to Maran Pata where the typical lunch will waiting for us, continuing two more hours We will arrive to the archaeological place of Choquequirao. Good time to enjoy that majestic place, we also are going to visit the Phaqchayuq and Pariaq Qaqa Inka terraces; from this place we can also observe one of the wonderful waterfalls… Approximately at 5 o'clock in the afternoon (depends of the weather) we can appreciate "the flight of the Condors", our camp site will ready near the Inka buildings.

DAY 3: CHOQUEQUIRAO – CH’IQUISKA
After breakfast we are going to visit the rest of choquequirao considered “the main part”, in that place are located the structures of the sacred place called Ushno, Hanan and Urin, where we can find all one citadel divided in two parts completely structured with streets, rectangular and squared constructions… exploring all these area we will come back to lunch place when we rest also for couple hours and start walking down until Ch’iquiska our camping place.

DAY 4: CH’IQUISKA - CACHORA - CUSCO
Early in the morning after breakfast (5:00 am), we will return Cachora town where the bus will waiting for the group, arriving in this place we will rest and get lunch, then come back by bus arriving in Cusco at 5:00 pm approximately.
